Hey - it's me Dave. Back with the weekly Exit Five newsletter. Can you follow our Instagram account? It'sExit Five Marketing (@Exit5Marketing). We'll post videos there to help you get smarter about B2B marketing while you're doom scrolling. FYI: LinkedIn followers are not a vanity metric. People are going to say they are, which is okay. But the number of followers you have, whether we like it or not, not only matters but creates impact. The more followers an account gets, the more people that account can reach. I can sense the hesitation … let’s think about an example: Alien A wants to launch a podcast, and so does Alien B. Alien A has 200,000 followers, and Alien B has 100. When they go to launch their podcast and promote it on LinkedIn, who’s going to get more initial listeners or downloads? Whether it’s podcasts or events or company updates, the larger following is always going to outweigh the smaller count. I’m sorry! I know it’s painful to accept, but it’s the reality.
- When I was at Drift, my LinkedIn helped drive business.
- When I do a webinar we drive hundreds of signups from LinkedIn.
- When I wrote my book, LinkedIn drove a majority of initial book sales.
- And!! A lot of you reading this probably found DGMG (now Exit Five) through LinkedIn!
Followers aren’t vanity metrics — they’re communities in numbers. Armies of people wanting to learn and listen and grow together. So, build a following. Start today. Share this with that person on your team or founder who is skeptical. Maybe it's a different frame for them to think about. |
